This edition is more like “what I’ve been watching this month.” What can I say? We’ve been busy summering and honestly with the wretched state of the world, I need anything and everything to distract from the Hellscape that we are currently living in.
So, in no particular order:
Beef – s1 and s2 (Netflix)
I didn’t really know what to expect when I started season 1, but I was quickly hooked. Beef centers around the aftermath of a road rage incident between Danny and Amy (Steven Yeun and Ali Wong) and what motivates people to behave the way that they do. Season 2 ran the same, sans road rage incident, and focused on two couples (Oscar Isaac/Carey Mulligan and Charles Meton/Cailee Spaeny). Between the two seasons, I prefer season one over two for overall story and character development, but I did still feel the heart of creator Lee Sung Jin in season 2.
Big Brother (CBS)
Big Brother has been my summer guilty pleasure for forever. As annoyed as I get when people “vote with the house,” I still enjoy this stupid show. This season though is pretty much a waste with the Icons (looking at you Dee and Devens), so I’m ready for next summer.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder – s2 (Netflix)
I apparently had been living under a rock because it took scrolling through Netflix, trying to find something to watch for me to realize that season 2 had come out. I hadn’t read the book yet, so I visited the local library, grabbed a copy and read it and boy, am I ever glad that I did. I liked season 2, but the book was way better.
Supernatural (originally The CW)
Prior to summer, my husband and I introduced our son to the Brothers Winchester. He liked the ghost stories and monsters of it all, but got really annoyed when Castiel showed up. He thought he was a d-bag. With some prodding he gave it another chance, worked through his issues with Cas, and is now fan again. Thank Chuck for that! 🙂
The Challenge: Cutthroat (Paramount+)
I love this crap so much. I’m a Xennial through and through and grew up firmly entrenched in the Real World and Road Rules days of MTV. If I remember correctly, it was originally dubbed the Real World/Road Rules Challenge and has gone through many different iterations over the years. I will watch this until MTV/Paramount decide to pull the plug on this classic.
I’ve had this show on my watch list for quite awhile and since I was all caught up on The Challenge, I needed to find another show to watch during my treadmill mornings. The premise is simple: FBI agent stops attack, gets reprimanded, gets stuck on scut duty in the basement of the White House, answering a phone that never rings until one night it does. I’ve got my guess as to where it’s heading, but I’m only on episode three and I’m known to be wrong in my predictions. Curious to see where this goes…
